#5. Start Each Day with Goals

Goal setting is a practice. Starting each day with a goal (or goals) is a good place to begin. I have been trying to work on setting a goal each day in four areas – a goal for my mind; a goal for my soul; a goal for my physical being; and a goal for my professional work.

The goals have been really simple but it is building a cadence for consistency and success.

I try to keep them simple – drinking one extra bottle of water; reading a quote of kindness; tackling a critical action at work that perhaps I have been procrastinating…….

Start each day with goals – simple and purposeful for you. You will feel accomplished at the end of the day – simply because you did just that – accomplished your daily goal(s).

#4. Choose to Focus on the Good

There is so much “bad” (for lack of a better word) in the world – in our lives, in our communities, in our jobs sometimes, and even in our families. It is easy to get stuck on what is going wrong versus what is going well. Even if the good things are small.

I believe that what we put out into the universe is what we receive. Goodness begets goodness. Kindness returns twofold. The choices we make set up our day and our interactions. There are people who naturally and instinctively look at the good – in everything. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people. The practice of focusing on the good is just that for me – a discipline, a practice. Frankly it is hard work to see the bright light in some really “bad” (wish I could find another word) situations.

So I practice – I practice listening to others who have this natural instinct when there is a situation that is less than ideal. I immediately go the negative space but I listen to the opportunity for goodness. My thinking changes, my mindset shifts, and I see through a very different lens.

This aligns with my goal of creating good habits – creating my positivity practice whereby I can see the goodness, kindness, and love in the world. Starting most days with a positive intention of how my world will be and what the universe will bring forward.

Remember Goal #3 – Create Good Habits – choose positivity, chose wisely. Celebrate yourself and your progress!

Empowering Women

A letter to my husband.

Six months. The longest 6 months of my life. This still seems unreal.

Every minute,

Every hour,

Every week,

Every month is painstaking

I search for answers. I search for memories. I search for your face ….. your beautiful loving face.

I search for my heart …. for some happy moments.

I search for who I am or who I could possibly be without you.

I keep busy during the day at work. I carry a heavy load of grief that wears me down every night and every weekend. The children and the littles provide love and comfort. I am grateful for that but they too struggle.

You have left a depth of sadness we struggle to overcome. I know in my heart of hearts that you didn’t intend to do that to us. If you knew how devastated we would be – you never would have left in this way. Your pain won the battle and we live to fight the war. To be kind. To love the world and to love one another. To honor your name, to honor your life. You were the essence of our family, the essence of my life. I miss you…..and the me that I was with you <3
